The 20-acre Lake Trahlyta is the heart of Vogel State Park which was Established in the 1930s and within the Chattahoochee National Forest, Vogel State Park is one of the oldest and most popular state parks in Georgia. Lake Trahlyta was built when the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) workers dammed Wolf Creek, built the lake and the original cabins during the Great Depression. The lake was named for a Cherokee maiden who is buried a few miles from the park at Stonepile Gap. The 2500' elevation of the park keeps a cool evening temperature even during the dog days of summer, which makes this a great camping spot. However make reservations in advance as the park fills up quickly, especially in the summer and during leaf change.
Anglers will be most interested in Lake Trahlyta and its feeder stream, Wolf Creek. Both bodies of water receive occasional stockings of rainbow trout. Warm water species including largemouth bass and sunfish are also abundant in Lake Trahlyta.
