Lake Chautge and Scenic Overlooks

Hiawassee Georgia overlooks the  7000 acre sapphire-blue Lake Chatuge.  Because of it’s 128 miles of shoreline this pristine lake is ideal for fishing, swimming, boating and camping. Hiawassee Georgia  shares the shores of Lake Chatuge with neighboring Hayesville, North Carolina.   One of the lakes  most notable qualities is the majestic mountains that surround it.

Bell Mountain is a must see Hiawassee destination.  It was recently donated to Towns County by the Hal Herrin Family and is now called the Hal Herrin Scenic Overlook. The 18 acre park is a local hangout for hang gliders and other thrill seekers.  Bell Mountain has breath taking panoramic views.  Now accessible to young and old alike.  The road to the top of the mountain is paved. It’s  steep but has a lot of  parking. Also they have built many decks and wood steps to enjoy this eagle’s view. As a result one of the view decks has wheelchair access.  So  despite the steep drive up  everyone can enjoy this  beautiful park.
